Telephone
Distribution

Telephone Distribution refers to our complex system of telephone based sales and customer support. This area of our business is essential to growth and to providing our customers with the service they want and expect. Challenges here include technology, team management and large volume sales.

If you want to become a leader in our Retail Telephone Sales and Service division, this is the place to start. It takes 24 months to complete our graduate programme. You will spend this time in different front-line sales roles offering products to customers who call up our centres.

Eventually, you’ll take on a more advanced role and be given structured training for advising customers on our products and services and providing them with general guidance. At the end of the 24 months, you’ll have picked up the necessary skills to become a team manager, and you could progress to lead a sales team of approximately 12 advisors.

Location

During the programme you’ll be based at one of three sites – Belfast, Leicester, Glasgow or Bradford. In all probability you’ll stay at the same site for the entire programme, although you’ll be expected to travel to other sites when required, such as for induction programmes and project work.

What we look for in you

We accept applications from candidates with a degree in business, economics, technology (IT), marketing or similar. However your degree subject is less important to us than your ability to communicate with people in a helpful and reassuring manner. We’ll also be particularly interested in people who can collaborate well with others, enjoy working in a customer-focused environment and are motivated by challenging targets.

Like all other graduates at Santander, you'll start by attending our very thorough induction programme. This will introduce you to Santander and to the global Santander Group, and it's a great introduction to graduates in other parts of the business who may become valuable contacts later in your career.

After the initial training, you will also embark on a series of personal development modules, which will help you to focus on developing people and team skills.
For each sales role, you’ll attend a training academy, which will give you all the product knowledge and sales skills you need for the role. When you’ve completed that training and are in your role, your manager will provide you with additional coaching and carry out a monthly meeting with you to review your progress. You will also be provided with a mentor to help support you during the programme.

We have a range of face-to-face management development training courses which are aimed at first line managers and will be vital to your success as a new manager.

Finally, as you near the end of your programme, you could have the chance to attend a career development course which should help you to identify your strengths and areas for development, and help you to plan your next steps forward.
