Corporate
Banking

If you’re good with people and you like nothing better than supporting colleagues and exceeding customer expectations, you’ve come to the right place. Corporate Banking is all about relationships. It’s how we set ourselves apart from our competitors – and how we’re driving the industry forward.

Santander is a major player in the UK corporate banking market. Customers are naturally attracted by the strength, security and capitalisation we offer, and by the fact that we operate in key commercial locations throughout the UK. But they also appreciate our approach – especially how we take the time to understand their needs, and carefully devise solutions that enable them to achieve their goals.

This programme, like the business it sits within, has relationship management written all over it. We’ll give you the technical knowledge and skills you need to develop any client’s business. Just as importantly though, we’ll show you the softer skills that will help you earn the trust of your clients, and maintain that trust for years to come.

Location

With Corporate Banking centres all across the UK, you could be based in any major city. Wherever you are though, expect to move between different business teams and locations.

What we look for in you

To join, you’ll need a keen interest in commercial banking and the sort of natural credibility that inspires confidence in whoever you come across. You’ll also need or expect to gain a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Business, Commercial Banking, Finance or a related discipline.

This programme will give you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and learn new skills by working with many different areas of the business over a two year period. During this time, you’ll undertake a structured development programme involving four six-month placements.

You’ll spend time in both the Regional Corporate Banking Network as well as the rest of Wholesale Corporate Banking in order to gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of all areas of the business. You’ll also gain exposure to Credit and Risk, which will give you some of the fundamental technical skills you need to be a successful Relationship Manager.

Developing your skills is as important to us as it is to you. Throughout your career you will receive both formal and 'on-the-job' training, giving you the knowledge and experience you need to realise your full potential.

When you join, you will receive a thorough induction and will be welcomed to the UK business. As part of this induction you will also receive a more local induction and eventually, after a period of time, we will broaden your induction to the wider Santander Group.

When you join, you’ll receive a warm welcome and a thorough induction into the UK business. As part of Santander UK, you can expect a consistent approach to your development as well as business-specific support.

All of our graduates participate in a number of core learning experiences. These are designed to develop your interpersonal skills and help prepare you for your first role managing others. Core learning is delivered through a blend of online and face-to-face training in modules covering areas such as an introduction to leadership and management; fundamentals of managing high performance teams; and essential communication and interpersonal skills.

In addition to this, you could be invited to undertake various activities throughout the programme, such as:

  • An induction to your business
  • An induction to your division
  • The allocation of your own mentor and buddy
  • Meetings with members of the Executive Committee
  • Involvement in cross-divisional project work
  • Graduate-specific events
  • The production and publication of our graduate magazine

In order to help you grow and reach your full potential, we’re committed in giving you the support you need. Not only will you be working closely with some very experienced people from across the business, you’ll also receive world-class training, both within placements and on specific tailored training initiatives.

The programme provides a starting point – do well and you can expect all sorts of development opportunities designed to meet your immediate and longer term career aspirations.

All of our graduate trainees are assessed on their individual performance and behaviours. As long as you demonstrate the required level of skills and behaviours and you have the passion and enthusiasm to succeed, then Santander UK could be perfect for you.
