Banking Support
Operations (GEOBAN)

If you want to be involved in a programme where you can make an immediate impact, this is it.

Geoban UK is an integral part of Santander, providing essential services to other Santander UK Businesses including the bank branches. This includes services throughout the customer lifecycle — from the opening of accounts or cards, to complex queries, complaints, collections and support to customers in financial difficulties. Our mission is to drive business growth by providing these services as cost-efficiently as possible, to the highest standards. With over 4,000 employees, Geoban has its own support functions, which opens up a diverse range of roles and career opportunities.

One of our current graduates has just completed his first 100 days in the programme, and told us:

"In the first 3 months with Geoban I have been involved in a range of projects, all of which have provided me the opportunity to develop my skills. I have been encouraged from the first day to question anything I feel we can improve; being allowed to make tangible changes that improve the way we work is a real motivation."

There are 4 different Geoban UK Programmes:

1. Banking Operations Programme (Bradford)
2. Payment Operations Programme (Bootle)
3. Governance & Control Programme (Bradford)
4. Organisation & Change Programme (Bradford)

Whatever the Programme, you'll work initially at trainee level in real roles within key parts of the business. You will very quickly be participating in high profile projects and making active contributions. When necessary, you may need to travel to other Geoban and Santander UK offices.

We want you to develop through your time with us. That's why every step of the way we'll make sure the work you do is as stimulating as it is challenging. We'll also make sure that your placements expose you to different areas of the business, so you can gain a unique perspective and use that to contribute to our continuous improvement.

To be considered for one of the Geoban UK Graduate Programmes, you must have or expect to gain a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Technology (IT) or a subject with substantial mathematical or numerical content.

Banking Operations
Banking Operations is the largest function within Geoban UK, and is responsible for providing the 'back office' operations and customer services for the Santander UK businesses and branches.

Working across different areas within Banking Operations will provide valuable practical experience of a fast-paced operational environment, as well as a key foundation of knowledge in banking processes, which will benefit a range of roles in various areas of the business.

Payment Operations
This Programme is based in Payment Operations in Bootle, where we are responsible for money transmission activities across Santander UK. There are approximately 53 million transactions processed each month across the various payment systems, and it is our role to ensure this is managed accurately and efficiently in order to provide high quality service to our customers.

Working in Payment Operations requires interaction with all functions within Geoban UK and the Bank, and would therefore be a strong foundation for a range of roles across the Geoban business.

Governance & Control
This function has a range of responsibilities towards ensuring Geoban UK has sufficient controls in place, so that we can run our business effectively and efficiently whilst providing the best customer service and complying with Regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include managing budgets, resource planning, producing management information and reporting on service. It is therefore a great opportunity to build contacts and exposure, and to get a wider view of the business areas and how they work together.

Organisation & Change Management
This team is dedicated to managing and implementing change projects across Geoban UK. Projects are very varied and can include supporting the implementation of new IT systems, exploring and implementing cost reduction exercises, launching new marketing initiatives, and working with the operational areas to implement improvements to processes and customer service.

Developing your skills is as important to us as it is to you. Throughout your career, you will receive both formal and 'on-the-job' training, giving you the knowledge and experience you need to realise your full potential.

When you join, you will receive a thorough induction and will be welcomed to the UK business. As part of this induction you will also receive a more local induction and also a broad induction to the wider Santander Group.

All graduates also participate in a number of core learning experiences, designed to develop your interpersonal skills and help prepare you for a first role managing others. Core learning is delivered through a blend of online and face-to-face training in modules covering topics such as an introduction to leadership and management; fundamentals of managing high performance teams; and essential communication and interpersonal skills. The Santander UK Graduate Programme is a two year programme designed to build our leaders of the future.

In addition to this you may be invited to various activities throughout the programme to include:

  • Induction to your UK business.
  • Induction to your Division.
  • Induction to the Santander Group.
  • Allocation of your own Mentor and Buddy.
  • Meetings with members of the Executive Committee.
  • Involvement in cross divisional project work.
  • Graduate specific events.
  • Publication of Graduate Magazine.

All of our graduate trainees are assessed on their individual performance and behaviours. Providing you demonstrate the required level of skills and behaviours and you have the passion and enthusiasm to succeed, then Santander UK could be you.

During the scheme, a series of personal and leadership development will be available, enabling you to develop as a potential leader or technical expert in the future. In addition within Geoban we will support appropriate external professional qualification and study, for example AAT, CIMA, Prince, and Lean Sigma.
