Retail Banking Management (Closed)

Overview »

This is more than just a fantastic opportunity to establish yourself at the heart of our branch network. Banco Santander is the Eurozone’s leading bank and among the top 15 financial institutions worldwide in terms of market capitalisation. Throughout your time with us, you’ll be part of a fast paced, energetic business that’s at the forefront of the financial industry. We aim to be the best bank to work for, a place where hard work, commitment, proactivity and the desire to develop your skills are recognised and rewarded.

If you're looking for reasons to join the world's largest network of high street banks, you'll find them here. Because we have over 1,400 (and counting) branches spread right across the UK. Our customers use their local branch to access a comprehensive range of competitively priced and easy to understand products, from current accounts and credit cards to mortgages, loans and savings and investment options. We're constantly updating our product range to meet the demands of our growing customer base and need the very best people to continue our success.

With us the focus is not on heavy selling, our branch employees listen carefully to customers and work with colleagues from all over the organisation in order to meet their needs.

You’ll enjoy a world of structured training and the accreditations you'll need to advise customers about our products and services. And throughout the programme there’s a clear route to becoming a Branch Manager.

How you do that is up to you. Some graduates opt to progress through specialist sales routes, while others choose particular product areas. Some aim for Branch Manager – others for Regional Manager or beyond. It all depends on what inspires you most and wherever you’re most likely to put your talents to best use. On the Retail Branch Programme, all doors are open.

The training takes place within the branch network predominantly, and to ensure you gain the right kind and amount of experience, you can move from branch to branch. This means you can relocate within your region, and possibly even nationwide.

What we look for in you »

To be considered here, you’ll need to have – or expect to gain – 280 UCAS points (or equivalent) and a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in all degree disciplines. Your specific degree discipline is less important to us than your passion for customer service and ability to communicate with people in a helpful and reassuring manner. We’ll also be particularly interested in hearing from people who collaborate well with others, enjoy working in fast paced customer-facing environments and are committed to doing the right thing first time.

Detail »

During the programme, you’ll come to understand how a branch operates, as well as experiencing first hand many of our key customer sales and service roles.

During this time, you'll be given structured training and will acquire the accreditations you'll need to advise customers about our products and services. You’ll learn how to give the guidance they need in line with financial services requirements. In doing so, you'll use all your communication skills and make them even stronger.

Our aspiration is that once you have completed the scheme, you will be ready to take on the role of Branch Manager. This is a very challenging role with a high level of responsibility. You’ll be accountable for every aspect of your branch – meeting budgets, sales targets and quality standards, applying control procedures, and managing your team's performance. It's quite an achievement after such a relatively short time in our organisation.
